Hands On Ant Biology and Identification
This course provides an introduction to identifying ants to species using microscopes and identification keys. The day includes a presentation introducing the morphological features used to identify specimens to species level, and during the lab session, you will explore a wide variety of different ant species, including workers, queens and males. Through a combination of taught classroom content and lab-based practical sessions, learners will gain confidence in using the identification keys and preserved specimens to identify ants to species level.

This session will be taught by Dr. Karen Vail (Professor and Extension Urban Entomologist, University of Tennessee).

Training Location: Agriculture and Natural Resources Building, ANR, room 321 (third floor)
Parking: Visitors can park along Volunteer Boulevard or on the top floor of the West Campus Parking Garage. $2/hr paid by app (see sign below), though rates may be different in other areas. It’s about a 10 minute walk from these locations to the training room.
